The director of New Hanover County's Board of Elections wants to remind all voters that Friday, April 9, is the last day to register or switch parties before the primary next month.

Director Bonnie Williams also wants voters to be aware that one-stop voting begins April 15 and ends on May 1.

The primary for the 2010 midterm elections, which has been repeatedly characterized as a wide-open contest showcasing few incumbents and a smorgasbord of fresh faces, is scheduled for May 4.

Anyone wanting to change party affiliation before the primary is required to do so by the close of business at the board of elections office or have their registration postmarked by 5 p.m., Williams said.

The elections office is located in the New Hanover County Government Center just off Racine Drive near the intersection of Eastwood Road.

Voter registration for the Nov. 2 Election Day ends on Oct. 8, according to the county Web site.
