Cape Fear OB/GYN welcomes new provider

Cape Fear OB/GYN at 1717 Shipyard Boulevard has added a new member to its ranks: Rachel McLean, D.O. a graduate of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, W. Va.

"I have enjoyed being in Wilmington and I look forward to getting to know the community even better," McLean said.

McLean will be working alongside Linda McClain, M.D.; Joel Snipe, M.D.; and Pamela Novosel, M.D.; and nurse practitioners Carol Flaugher and Susan Lorencz.

Two of those providers, Drs. Novosel and Snipe, joined the practice within the last year, said practice spokesperson Amy Myers. Myers said all six providers are now accepting new patients.

UNCW Professor given $6,000 for research
and publication

An assistant professor in the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Department of History will be receiving a stipend of $6,000 to support his research and publication efforts regarding the Revolutionary War in the state. The announcement came earlier this month when the professor, Chris E. Fonvielle Jr., was elected the state’s George Washington Distinguished Professor by the NC Society of the Cincinnati.

Fonvielle has a long-standing history in the realm of Civil War, Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear, the Old South and Antebellum American studies. He is the author of several books and articles on Civil War operations and is currently researching a book about the Battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge, said Caroline Cropp, university media relations specialist. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the Society of the Cincinnati was founded by officers of the Continental Army and Navy at the close of the Revolutionary War with the goal of preserving certain ideals and fellowship for which they had fought.
