People of all ages came out to Wrightsville Beach on Wednesday, Jan. 29 to see the icy scene left behind by Winter Storm Leon. Meteorologist Mark Bacon, with the National Weather Service’s Wilmington office said roads will likely remain icy until Friday, Jan. 31, with temperatures expected to stay in the 30s Thursday, Jan. 30. Total snow and sleet accumulations are expected to total 1 to 3 inches, with the lowest amounts closer to the coast. The last time the New Hanover County area was hit with ice was in 2004.
