Shuck all you can eat

With a chill in the air and ripe oysters in the sound, the Wrightsville Beach Chamber of Commerce will host an oyster roast from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. 

The roast will take place on the newly renovated Crystal Pier at the Oceanic Restaurant. 

Tickets for the event are $25 and include all-you-can-eat oysters from Henry Temple, sides by the Oceanic and one drink ticket. Proceeds from the event will benefit the upkeep of the historically designated 1940 Howell Cottage, which serves as the Wrightsville Beach Visitors Center and the office of the chamber of commerce in Wrightsville’s Historic Square.

Chamber board member Sue Bulluck said the historic cottage was in need of power washing, painting, new windows, roof patching and interior work. 

“This is the first real fundraiser the chamber has done in years and it is time,” Bulluck said. “The house has been through lots of storms and has some up-fitting and maintenance, but it is time to get all of those things done.” 

Bulluck also said the candidates for the Wrightsville Beach Board of Aldermen will be among the 200-250 in attendance at the roast and that the event would serve as an informal final meet and greet prior to election day on Nov. 5. 

“The goal is to bring the community together in this heated election time so that when we come out of it we have a working relationship,” she said. 

The event is open to the public but there are a limited number of tickets available. Tickets may be purchased at Robert’s Market or online at the chamber of commerce’s website, www.wrightsville.org
