Ocean Calling 

Piano Recital

Thursday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m.

Meira Warshauer, acclaimed composer and Wilmington local, will be performing her newly completed composition entitled “Ocean Calling.” Written for two pianos, Warshauer’s piece is inspired by the sea and the necessity of its preservation. Admission is $25 for the general public, and free for UNCW students. 




For the Bird Lovers

Bird Hike

Friday, Oct. 25, 8 a.m.

Smith Creek Park


New Hanover County Environmental Educators invite guests to join them on a hike through Smith Creek Park to observe and learn about the bird species that inhabit the Lower Cape Fear region. The hike lasts roughly an hour and a half and those in attendance are advised to wear comfortable walking shoes. Admission is free. Contact Matt Collogan at 910-798-7700 for more information.

Wilmington Arthritis Walk

The Arthritis Foundation presents its nationwide event to raise funds to fight arthritis and arthritis-related diseases. Registration begins at 1 p.m., and the walk will start at 2 p.m. Leashed dogs are welcome. For more information, visit
