A public information meeting was held by the City of Wilmington at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound to educate the public about a planned connector trail beneath the Heide Trask Drawbridge as part of the Gary Shell Cross-City Trail.
The city has chosen Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. to complete the $950,000 project.
The conceptual walkway design with winding ramps at either access will require cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes underneath the bridge. The lower portion will be concrete to meet the flood zone requirement.
The construction start date is next spring, with a wrap up by late summer. Other than equipment staging, the project is not expected to close roads.
