Ed Walker of Carolina Bronze puts the final touches on the sculptures he cast for the Wilmington Firefighters’ Memorial on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The dedication was Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in honor of the 12th anniversary of the four coordinated terrorist attacks in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. In total, almost 3,000 people died in the attacks, including the 227 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four hijacked planes. More than 300 firefighters, including seven from Wilmington, perished in the line of duty  in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. — Pat Bradford
