The Wrightsville Beach Fire Department is recruiting volunteer firefighters to join the squads career and volunteer members working to provide fire prevention, suppression and emergency medical services to the town of Wrightsville Beach.

Applicants must be in good health and live within five road miles of the Heide Trask Drawbridge, but no previous firefighting experience is required. Once accepted the WBFD provides each new member with a comprehensive training program and furnishes all of the necessary equipment.

Applications must be submitted to the Wrightsville Beach Fire Station by Aug. 1 in time for the Recruitment Training Academy, which will begin Aug. 27, and run every Tuesday and Thursday evening through early December.

Upon graduation, firefighters can earn extra money through the WBFDs paid on call program. Volunteer firefighters can also qualify to work part-time for the WBFD as fire apparatus operators or as Emergency Management Technicians.

For more information, call the WBFD at 910-256-7920 or email WBFD Captain Sterling Powell at spowell@towb.orgb Cole Dittmer
