With a hearing scheduled for May 20, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approved resolutions to censure Commissioner Brian Berger, approve the amotion hearing rules and procedures and revise the hearing rules and procedures during Monday’s meeting.

Berger, who arrived to the April 22 meeting on time with a group of supporters, opposed all three items and Commissioner Jonathan Barfield Jr. voted down the second item to proceed with the amotion process.

Chairman Woody White read all of the motions aloud following the board’s votes.

The hearing will be held on May 20 either during or immediately following the regular meeting, scheduled at 9 a.m.

The board should not proceed with any action to replace a commissioner who has been removed from office pursuant to the amotion hearing until a 30-day period has elapsed.

A list of witnesses will be provided to the board’s clerk on or by 5 p.m. May 17.
