While some families waited out in the cold at Wrightsville
Beach Park so their children could tell Santa what they hoped to find under the
tree this year, others slipped into sharp suit jackets and slinky cocktail
dresses to mingle at the Anchors Away North Carolina Holiday Flotilla Launch
Party at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort.
The award-winning kitchen staff of the Blockade Runner Beach
Resort prepared a post-Thanksgiving feast featuring a variety of foods from
coconut shrimp to Asian chicken dumplings. Amid beach-themed Christmas trees
decorated with colorful fish ornaments, guests fixed plates and soaked in the
holiday spirit while browsing silent auction items in the lobby.
Items for auction included original artwork from around
Wrightsville Beach, as well as gift certificates for local businesses such as
Surf Camp.
Guests from all around the Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach
social scene could be seen enjoying the party. Even Mrs. Claus was in
attendance, fresh from the town tree lighting and the flotilla Captain's
Meeting.
When 8 p.m. rolled around, “Raleigh's premiere party band,”
BrickHouse, drew guests into the ballroom and played hits from across the
generations. Its funky jams brought children and adults alike up out of their
seats and on to the dance floor.
