As the process for filling the New Hanover County Parks,
Gardens and Senior Resource Center director position begins, the senior
resource center is reorganizing into its own unit.
The announcement was made by county manager Chris Coudriet
in a press release on Wednesday, Nov. 7.
“Effective Dec. 1, the Senior Resource Center will be
managed and lead as a separate entity,” Coudriet stated. “This change will
provide the county the opportunity to move forward with recruiting a director
for Parks and Gardens while evaluating the most appropriate long-term
organizational placement for our Senior Resource Center.”
The announcement came six days after the county released a
notification that former director Jim McDaniel had withdrawn his termination
appeal.
Brenda Brow, current senior resource center manager, will
continue in her position but will now report to assistant county manager Tim
Burgess.
Brow was hired by the county in October 2005 and has served
in her current position since December 2009. Her job description and her salary
will not change.
The center includes 16 standard employee positions, seven
temporary positions and one vacant position.
The county plans to post the parks and gardens director
position internally and public information officer Charles Smith said he
anticipates a target date of having the position filled by beginning to
mid-December.
