In an email to
Wrightsville Beach planning and parks director Tony Wilson, Hans Lonander of
Intercoastal Contracting said the company would begin work to remove the last
three bays of the easternmost end of Crystal Pier on Tuesday, Sept. 18, at
noon. Lonander said the project would be completed before dark that same
day.
Intercoastal Contracting
will complete the work with a truck and fork loader on the beach, and boats in
the water to pull away the section of the pier to be removed. Once removed from
the pier, Lonander said the pieces would either be dragged to the beach to be
towed away or taken to the company's barge depending on their condition.
No impact from the
demolition is expected for the remainder of Crystal Pier and the Oceanic restaurant plans on operating on a regular schedule.
